Yang Tai Chi Chuan
Yang Lu Chan
Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong
Because it is practiced in a slow and relaxed manner, Yang Tai Chi Chuan calms the mind, releasing
mental and physical tensions. It prevents stress-induced disorders such as high blood pressure and poor digestion. Daily practice of Tai Chi Chuan promotes better posture, flexibility, and circulation, which can reduce the pain of chronic problems such as repetitive stress injuries or arthritis. The practice of Tai Chi Chuan also gives its practitioners more Qi energy in their daily lives, which improves productivity and personal relationships.
As a martial art, Tai Chi Chuan uses the principle of "four ounces of strength versus a ton of force". Tai Chi practitioners learn to use their own internal energy to neutralize and redirect the momentum of an opponent, allowing them to overcome even a larger, more powerful attacker. Training in weapon forms and freestyle pushhand sparring is also available for more advanced students.
Tai Chi Chuan training also includes the practice of
Qigong - using the breath to relax
Meditation - internalizing the breath
Hand forms - connecting and manipulating internal energy with the physical body
Pushhands - discovering one’s own strengths and weaknesses with a partner
Sensitivity training - listening to (sensing) the other’s energy
Applications - using techniques combined with internal intent to overcome an opponent
Please feel free to ask any questions. Any techniques regarding internal energy, timing, and distance cannot be explained in words alone. Attending classes, you will experience and feel it.
